Army Pvt. Silas Keim has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training. During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.     The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to perform reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; locate and neutralize land mines and operate target and sight equipment; operate and maintain communications equipment and radio networks; construct field firing aids for infantry weapons; and perform infantry combat exercises and dismounted battle drills, which includes survival procedures in a nuclear, biological or chemical contaminated area. He is the son of Paulette Keim of E. Monroe Terrace, Springfield, Mo. The private is a 2008 graduate of the Christian Schools of Springfield.


Army Pvt. David A. Silsby St., Springfield, Mo. The private graduated from a home school program in 2009.


Army Sgt. 1st Class James I. Smirl was part of a support team made up of soldiers from throughout the Army for the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The Army sponsored the nationally-televised football game played on January 9th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This was the Army's 10th year as sponsor of the high school all-star game that pits the best players in the nation against each other in an East versus West contest. The soldiers' support ranged from coordinating events with players and soldier-heroes to providing media coordination, hotel accommodations and organizing and orchestrating pre-game activities. In this year's match-up, the West team managed to outscore the East team, 30-14.
 
Smirl, a combat engineer, is assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, Fort Riley, Junction City, Kan. He has served in the military for 15 years. He is the son of Jim R. and Linda R. Smirl of Ash Grove, Mo. His wife, Melanie, is the daughter of Jerry D. and Donna J. Jones of N. Calhoun Ave., Ash Grove, Mo. The sergeant is a 1993 graduate of Ash Grove High School.


Army Reserve Pfc. Jason C. Hull has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. He is the son of Angela Hull of W. Poplar St., Springfield, Mo. Hull is a 2003 graduate of Seymour High School, Mo.
 
 
Air Force Airman Matthew J. Richards graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Dori Rominger of W. Swan St., Springfield, Mo., and Ron Richards of Mobile Way, Sacramento, Calif. Richards is a 2009 graduate of Kickapoo High School, Springfield.
 
 
Air Force Airman Joseph P. Humrichouse graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Julia Humrichouse of E. Farm Road 2, Fair Grove, Mo. Humrichouse is a 2009 graduate of Fair Grove High School.
 
 
Air Force Airman Jacob R. Adams graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Bonnie Adams of W. Farm Road 106, Willard, Mo. Adams is a 2007 graduate of Willard High School.
 
 
Army Reserve Pfc. Dalton Briggs has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. He is the son of Shannon and stepson of Todd Hartmayer of E. Fox Grape, Springfield, Mo. His grandparents, Gary and Becky Hartmayer, also reside in Springfield.       Briggs is a 2009 graduate of Glendale High School, Springfield, Mo.
 
 
Air Force Reserve Airman Nicholas D. Conrad graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Dale and Cindy Conrad of W. Westwood St., Battlefield, Mo. Conrad is a 2003 graduate of Parkview High School, Springfield, Mo.


Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob P. Timothy Ridge Road, Strafford, Mo.  Goodin graduated in 2004 from Strafford High School, and received an associate degree in 2005 from Ozarks Technical Community College, Springfield, Mo.


Army National Guard Pvt. Matthew J. Roberts has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky. During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values. Roberts is the son of Patrica Whetsten of W. Hovey St., Springfield, Mo., and Mark Roberts of Marion St., Leavenworth, Kan.



Army Reserve Spec. Jessica M. Aiken has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq. Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq's sovereignty and independence as a democracy. Aiken, a military police member of the 339th Military Police Company, based in Davenport, Iowa, has two years of military service. She is the daughter of Jason F. Aiken of N. Fay Ave., and niece of Teri E. Hughes of E. Hines St., Republic, Mo. The specialist is a 2007 graduate of Republic High School.


Air Force Airman Randy A. Kraus graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of John Kraus of E. Chestnut St., Bolivar, Mo., and grandson of Willie R. Tate of E. Bluff Drive, Springfield, Mo.  The airman is a 2007 graduate of Bolivar High School.


Air Force Airman Hunter E. Neathery graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Mr.    Neathery earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Beth Neathery of S. Bedford Ave., Springfield, Mo



Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Franklin W. Fewell has been decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving at an overseas forward operating base.  The medal is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, has performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement or distinguished service during armed conflict or ground combat while engaged against an armed enemy of the United States.  Chief Fewell received the medal for distinguished service serving as Security Forces manager for the 732nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing while engaged in ground combat against an enemy of the U.S. at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. His leadership, endeavor, and devotion to duty provided administrative and operational control of more than 500 combat airmen at 26 locations that ensured the success of the most heavily engaged Security Forces unit in the U.S. Air Force. He was responsible for the only Air Force detachment conducting dangerous Iraqi Police Transition Team missions, four law and order detachments, and 31 military working dogs teams tasked to support the U.S. Army. He traveled more than 4,100 miles throughout Iraq ensuring the health and welfare of Joint Expeditionary Tasking Airmen while solidifying command relationships with tactical command authorities. The chief conducted 18 combat missions outside he defended base perimeter, which included dismounted patrols on dangerous Baghdad streets, including providing security for a potentially dangerous vehicle recovery operation during a nighttime mounted patrol. He masterminded plans for a new 171-person Police Transition Team, laying the ground work with current leadership for a seamless transition from the U.S. Army to the U.S. Air Force. 
Fewell is superintendent of the Air Force Space Command Inspector General at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colo. The chief master sergeant has served in the military for more than 27 years.  He is the son of Franklin E. and Drema G. Fewell of U.S. Route 60, Rainelle, W.Va. His wife, Marsha, is the daughter of Marvin and Marjorie Hill of W. U.S. Highway 160, Willard, Mo.


Air Force Airman Stephen C. Dodge graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.  Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Dodge is the son of Christopher Dodge of East Lark St., Ozark, Mo., and the grandson of Susan Ludwig of Singletary Road, Myakka City, Fla. He is a 2009 graduate of Dodge's Home School, Ozark.



Navy Ensign Jamon A. Holzhouser has entered into the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Md., as a first-year medical student of a four-year program. The student will be trained and prepared to serve as a physician in the Army, Navy, Air Force or the Public Health Service. Outstanding scientists and health care practitioners are prepared for careers in service to the nation.  The tuition-free university, established by Congress under the Defense Department, is recognized as a worldwide reputable center of excellence for military medical education and research. In addition to the four years of free tuition, students receive free books, and equipment and instruments. The curriculum includes a concentration of preventive medicine, primary care, and emergency medicine, which are directly related to health protection, military medicine, tropical diseases, disaster medicine, military readiness, and adaptation to extreme environments.  Holzhouser is the son of Charlene Holzhouser of Cobblestone Lane, Sparta, Mo.  His wife, Carter, is the daughter of David P. Morgan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Anne G. Morgan of Richmond, Va.  He received a bachelor's degree in 2002 from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, and earned a master's degree in 2009 from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va.
